- Subsidiary of Russia's Rosatom, ASE JSC will build Iran's Bushehr-2 nuke plant, company announces

The construction of Iran's Bushehr-2 Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) started on Tuesday, ASE JSC, the Russian general contractor and part of Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division announced Wednesday.

In November 2014, the Nuclear Power Production and Development Company of Iran (NPPD) and ASE JSC signed the turnkey Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contract for construction of the WWER-1000 power units 2 and 3 for the Bushehr-2 NPP.

Expertise has already been amassed from the construction of the Bushehr-1 NPP, Suren Ambartsumyan, ASE director for the Bushehr NPP Construction said, adding that the Russian and Iranian team of experts is capable of delivering high-quality standards on schedule with the construction timetable.

"The Bushehr-1 NPP construction process contributed to building a competent team of Russian and Iranian engineering experts that can efficiently handle complex engineering tasks and emergency situations by choosing and implementing the best solutions. The skill of Iranian specialists will be utilized in the Bushehr-2 NPP construction project," Ambartsumyan said.

The cumulative capacity of the two units will amount to 2,100 megawatts.

The new NPP's units 2 and 3 plan to be completed in 2024 and 2026, respectively.

Russia also built Iran's 1,000-megawatt capacity Bushehr 1 NPP, which began operations in 2013.
