Regulation
Turkish fuel distrs. charging higher prices early warned
- Turkey's energy watchdog, EMRA, does not adjust increase or decrease in fuel prices, says regulatory authority head

The head of Turkey's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) warned fuel distributors on Tuesday about applying higher fuel pricing ahead of schedule.

"We have received complaints about price hikes in which some gas stations increase the price before midnight [the designated time for changing prices]," Yilmaz said at Turkey's eighth energy summit in Antalya.

"We are also monitoring the fuel distribution market and perpetrators could receive a penalty decision unexpectedly," Yilmaz warned.

He also clarified the common misconception that EMRA adjusts the fuel price increases or decreases, and said that this is up to the fuel distribution companies who set the prices within the framework of regulations.

There are currently about 100 fuel distribution companies operating in Turkey.
