Brazil’s oil and gas company Petrobras reported a historic high oil production in 2016, 33 percent above 2015, the company said on Wednesday.
Average annual production operated in the pre-salt layer in 2016 was the highest in the company’s history, reaching 1.02 million barrels of oil per day, the company added.
Natural gas output reached 77 million cubic meters per day in 2016.
“The utilization rate for Petrobras’ gas in Brazil also achieved its annual record in 2016, reaching 96 percent, a result of the efforts undertaken by the operating efficiency improvement and gas use optimization programs,” the company said.
Additionally, Petrobras also hit record levels of monthly production in December.
“Oil production in Brazil for the first time exceeded 2.3 million barrels per day, 3 percent above the record registered in September 2016,” the company added.
In gas production, there was a 2 percent increase in comparison to the previous month, achieving 81.8 million cubic meters per day.
A combination of oil and natural gas production in Brazil totaled 2.82 million barrels of oil equivalent in December 2016, 3 percent higher than production recorded in November 2016 and 6 percent higher than December 2015, “which also represents a new monthly production record for the company,” Petrobras said.
