Turkey discusses unconventional potential

The decline in oil prices and the possibility of the US government to export shale gas would affect the future of unconventional energy, according to Volkan Ediger, a professor from Turkey’s Kadir Has University.

"The future of shale gas and shale oil in US is really important for the energy world and for the unconventional energy’s future," said Ediger in Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) -Turkey Section Annual Symposium - Unconventional Resources.

Unconventional reservoirs have been discussed in the symposium, which was held in Turkey and organized on December 4-5, 2014 in Middle East Technical University, in Ankara.

Additionally, Turkish Petroleum Corporation Deputy General Director said that, there is serious unconventional potential in Turkey and they are taking every step to unveil this potential.

A total of 205 delegates such as Turkish Petroleum Corporation Deputy General Director Besim Sisman, Middle East Technical University President Ahmet Acar and SPE International 2016 President Nathan Meehan have participated from 21 companies and 7 universities. Turkish Petroleum was the honorary supporter of the organization.

Unconventional oil is petroleum produced through practices other than oil wells.

According to the International Energy Agency's (IEA), unconventional oil consists of a wider variety of liquid sources including oil sands, extra heavy oil, gas to liquids and other liquids.
